Prasanna Lachagari Leads Women's Education and Housing Project
SDI Architecture was engaged to design a comprehensive educational campus in rural Telangana, India, aimed at serving underprivileged children and marginalized women. The project includes a primary school, girl’s dormitory, and supportive housing—crafted to not only provide access to education, but also to foster dignity, community, and opportunity.
The school was designed to reflect and respect the rhythms of rural life, integrating sustainable building techniques with regional architectural forms. Classrooms are naturally ventilated and organized around shaded courtyards that double as gathering spaces, play zones, and informal learning environments. The layout encourages connection—between students, between indoor and outdoor spaces, and between learning and living.
Beyond academics, the campus includes dormitories for girls to ensure safety and accessibility, along with dedicated housing for women participating in job training and support programs. Handcrafted elements like Kalamkari murals and traditional porches (“arugus”) are woven into the design, grounding the project in cultural identity. The result is a campus that feels rooted and forward-looking—a place where education is not just taught, but lived.
