Tech Company Headquarters Refresh
SDI Architecture collaborated with Baker Design Group to reimagine the corporate cafeteria for a leading international technology company headquartered in Norwood, Massachusetts. Known for bridging the analog and digital worlds, the client had recently completed global facility upgrades—making their existing cafeteria feel dated, undersized, and disconnected from the evolving needs of their growing workforce.
Located at the intersection of the headquarters’ original two-story office structure and a later industrial addition, the new cafeteria design presented an opportunity to do more than expand seating—it served as a visual and functional bridge between the building’s eras. The team took advantage of this junction to introduce architectural elements that softened the long, uninterrupted brick façade while preserving material continuity. The result is a thoughtful addition that respects the building’s context while offering a clear visual update.
To create a more inviting and sunlit environment, the new cafeteria features expansive glass walls complemented by a cantilevered sunscreen that filters daylight while adding rhythm to the elevation. Metal panels provide a contrasting material language, further breaking up the building’s scale and offering a natural point for future entry upgrades. At 12,000 square feet, the updated space not only accommodates the company’s expanded employee base but also elevates the experience of gathering, eating, and connecting—bringing a sense of lightness and modernity to the company’s daily rituals.
